NORTH AMERICA

Mid-Atlantic

Adirondacks

We've taken 5 separate trips to the ADK on our quest to become 46ers.

New River Gorge NP | WV

The newest national park has a ton to do, even if you don't want to get on the water and raft down the New. We hiked, dared to do the Bridge Walk, and got muddy on ATVs.

Shenandoah NP | VA

Within easy driving distance of our home, Shenandoah is a national park we've visited three times. Summiting Old Rag Mountain is a classic day hike.

North East

We took a fall tour of New England. Highlights included hiking in the White Mountains of NH, taking the cog railway to the top of Mount Washington, and ziplining at Bretton Woods. Sailing and eating lobster in Maine. Our very first trip to Vermont together which was principally to find Heady Topper but instilled in us an undying love for the state.

Vermont

It's no secret we're smitten with Vermont. We've visited a whopping 10 times, typically spending the week between Christmas and New Year's in our favorite cabin. We have one journal, from our trip during the summer of COVID, 2020.

South East

Asheville | NC

Wooded hikes, kayaking along the French Broad River, marveling at the Biltmore Estate, and thoroughly checking out the craft beer scene made Asheville a great getaway.

Great Smoky Mountains NP | TN

While the Smokies are the most visited national, we were able to carve out moments of solitude. We even ran a Vacation Races half marathon while in town!

NP & Key West Road Trip|FL

An exploration of the swamps and waters of Everglades NP, Big Cypress Preserve, and Biscayne NP with a road trip to Key West. A seaplane flight to Dry Tortugas NP was the grande finale.

Mid-West

Badlands & Black Hills | ND & SD

A 2,000-mile road trip that took us to Theodore Roosevelt NP, Badlands NP, the Minuteman Missile site, Custer State Park, Wind Cave NP, Devils Tower, and Mount Rushmore. We also ran the Vacation Races Mount Rushmore half marathon. Phew!

Bourbon Trail & Red River Gorge | KY

Bourbon, horses, and baseball bats kept us busy in Louisville before moving on to Mammoth Cave NP. Adventure activities galore awaited us in Red River Gorge including UTVing along the river, hiking, a via ferrata, and even kayaking underground in a cave.

South West

One of our first true hiking trips was to the Grand Canyon and Zions in August. We hiked below the rim of the Grand Canyon and watches the sunset as part of a jeep safari. In Zions we hiked iconic trails such as Angels Landing and the Narrows. Looking back, we’ve grown so much as hikers since this trip!

NP & Sedona Road Trip | UT & AZ

One of our favorite trips in recent memory. What wasn't to love? Our first plane trip since the start of COVID took us to Bryce Canyon NP, Capitol Reef NP, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse Point State Park, and Sedona.

NP Road Trip | TX & NM

Another greatest hits of the national park trip - Big Bend NP (and State Park!), Guadalupe Mountains NP, Carlsbad Caverns NP, and White Sands NP. We witnessed a ring of fire eclipse in New Mexico too!

North West

Glacier NP | MT

The national park on our most wanted list did not disappoint. A full week of gorgeous hiking, impossible blue glacial lakes, and wildlife.

Grand Tetons & Yellowstone | MT & WY

Back to back weekends of Vacation Races half marathons in each park PLUS hiking, rodeos, early morning wildlife viewing, and whitewater rafting kept us busy.

West

Death Valley & Joshua Tree NP | CA

Beginning and ending a trip in Las Vegas allowed us to explore Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire before moving on to the moonscapes of Death Valley NP. Prickly trees and cacti awaited us in Joshua Tree and a day trip to Palm Springs NP was rejuvenating.

San Diego | CA

Using San Diego as a Southern California base, we visited the beaches for kayaking and surfing, the mountains for hikes, and day tripped to Disneyland for a ridiculously fun day.

US Virgin Islands

St. Thomas & St. John USVI NP | USVI

We snorkeled off boats and beaches we hiked to, each time astounded by the variety of sea life. Fish, turtles, starfish, squid, and even an octopus. Adventuring by day and enjoying painkiller cocktails by night was the life!

Canada

Banff | Canada

One of the most beautiful mountain destinations we've ever visited, we spent days on the trails in Banff. It was where we had the grizzly encounter that lead to my bear tattoo.Thankfully unscathed, we went spelunking, whitewater rafting, traversed the Columbia Icefield, and took high tea at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.
